Job Title: Children's Librarian - Full Time
Salary Range: $38,782 to $43,648 including fringe benefits. This is a civil service position.

Duties / Description: The Passaic Public Library is seeking a creative and energetic Children’s Librarian to manage and supervise all aspects of Children’s services.

In coordination and consultation with other library staff members, the Children’s Librarian will:

Promote Children’s Services and other available library services through outreach activities to local area schools and organizations.

Provide readers’ advisory service to suggest materials to children and parents seeking aid in selection of reading material.

Develop programs for pre-school through middle grade level children with an emphasis on literacy development.

Coordinate the Library’s participation in NJLA’s Annual Summer Reading Library Program.

Compose publicity releases or other program announcements
Select and manage the Children’s collection, including weeding materials for discard.

Issue assignments and instruct subordinate personnel in the performance of their work.

Conduct story hours and other Children’s programs.

Exchange ideas and information with supervisors to formulate policies and procedures.

Compile statistical data and compose narrative reports relating to Children’s Services.

Attend local professional meetings and training relevant to Children’s Services.

Job qualifications include excellent verbal and written communications skills and a Master’s degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited program. Some weekends and nights are required. Knowledge of Spanish is useful, but not required.

Salary range: $38,782 to $43,648, including fringe benefits. This is a civil service position.
